Mimi Cheng's Dumplings

Kind of like the Baked by Melissa of dumplings: innovated flavors, brightly light restaurant, big glass windows, custom labeled water bottles, modernist white walls, customers pay on an ipad...we think you get the point. Mimi Cheng's has two locations, one in Soho and one in the East Village. Given the locations, it is not surprising that this restaurant is essentially 2019 brunch culture meets Chinese dumplings. They have everything from compostable containers to decorative succulents to organic chicken and pasture-raised pork.

Mimi Cheng's was started by two sisters who could never find dumplings as good as their Taiwanese mom's dumplings. The focus of their menu is more on using organic/locally sourced ingredients and providing fresh tasting food than on sticking to traditional flavors and items. Their nontraditional takes on Taiwanese dumplings can be seen in their monthly specials, which in the past have included three cheese mac and cheese dumplings, chicken parm dumplings, cheeseburger dumplings and philly cheesesteak dumplings.
