Tri Dim Shanghai

The only place to eat soup dumplings (or really any dumplings other than fried pork dumplings) on the Upper East Side. Some dishes are really good and some are just ok, but either way you will be getting some dim sum without going downtown. The restaurant has lots of round tables filled with families who are breaking tradition by eating Chinese food instead of going to their favorite pasta place on their weekly dinner out.

The best dumplings (and probably the best dish) at Tri Dim are these pork dumplings in chili sauce. Their strong flavor will overpower and make up for the one or two not-so-good dishes you end up ordering. We know you will regret not ordering these.

Some solid pork soup dumplings in a not so typical steamer.

What you see is what you get: four steamed vegetable dumplings. Not bad, but nothing impressive.

Please, for the love of dumplings, DO NOT ORDER THESE Steamed Shanghai Shumai. The wrappers are stale and the filling has an awful stench. Too much going on in these..that is too much of all the wrong things.

A nice sized bowl of some good Ma Po Tofu Casserole.
